# How to Prepare Your Home for a Remodel

> A simple checklist for getting your home, family and pets ready before a bathroom, kitchen or handyman project begins.

A little preparation helps installation day go smoothly and protects your belongings.

## The week before

* Confirm your install date and arrival time.
* Plan where everyone will shower or cook while the room is out of service.
* Clear a path from the driveway to the work area.
* Let neighbors know if trucks will be parked out front.

## The day before

* **Empty the room.** Remove toiletries, towels, rugs, shower caddies, and anything on counters or in cabinets being replaced.
* **Take down wall items** such as mirrors, art and shelves near the work area.
* **Protect nearby rooms.** Move fragile décor from hallways.
* **Plan for pets.** Keep pets in a closed room or away from open doors and tools.
* **Note anything unusual,** like a shut-off valve that sticks or a fan that never worked.

## On installation day

* Be available at the start of the day to confirm details.
* Keep children and pets out of the work zone.
* Ask about any cure or wait times\* before the new shower or counter can be used.

## Frequently asked questions

> **Do I need to move furniture?**
>
> Clear the room being worked on and the path to it. If something heavy is in the way, mention it when you schedule.

> **Will there be dust?**
>
> Some dust is normal with demolition. The crew protects floors and nearby areas, but moving valuables out of the room is still a good idea.
