How to Vet a Bathroom Remodeling Contractor: Warranties, Leak Prevention and Credentials
Straight answers from a Conway, AR remodeling team: 20 years of experience, in business since 2014, 500+ remodels, licensed, insured and workers' comp covered.
Quick Answer
To vet a bathroom remodeling contractor, verify their license with the Arkansas Contractors Licensing Board, ask for proof of insurance, confirm a local address and phone number, and get every warranty in writing. Ask what the product warranty and the workmanship warranty each cover, and how the shower area is waterproofed.

Why Bathrooms Need Extra Vetting
Water is hidden
A bathroom combines plumbing inside the walls with water hitting the walls every day. A poorly sealed shower can leak slowly for a long time before you see a stain, a soft floor or a loose wall.
Insurance may not help
Many homeowners policies exclude damage from slow, ongoing leaks. Read your own policy, and do not assume insurance will cover a failed shower installation.
Example: a slow leak
A homeowner notices the floor by the tub feels soft a few years after a remodel. The cause is a gap in the waterproofing at the valve. By then the subfloor needs repair. Good installation and a clear workmanship warranty are what protect you here.
Product Warranty vs. Workmanship Warranty
Product warranty
A product or manufacturer warranty covers defects in the materials themselves, such as wall panels, shower bases or fixtures. It usually does not cover labor or a faulty installation, and it may require that the product was installed to the manufacturer's instructions.
Workmanship warranty
A workmanship warranty covers the contractor's installation work. This is the coverage that matters if a seam, drain or valve connection was installed incorrectly. Ask how long it lasts and what it excludes.
What All-Star Renovations offers
All-Star Renovations provides a lifetime product warranty on All-Star Shower Systems materials plus a 5-year workmanship warranty, backed by our 100% Customer Guarantee. Both are in writing; see our warranty page for details.
Questions to Ask About Leak Prevention
What is behind the walls?
Ask whether the old surround will be removed down to the studs, and how framing and subfloor will be inspected for rot before anything new goes in. Avoid covering an old, damaged surround with a liner.
How is the shower waterproofed?
Ask what waterproofing goes behind the walls and under the base, and whether it meets industry standards (for example, ANSI A118.10). Ask how the valve, the drain and corners are sealed.
Example: comparing two answers
One contractor says, "We'll go over the old tile." Another explains that they will remove the surround, check the framing, waterproof the wet area and seal around the valve and drain. The second answer tells you much more about how the job will hold up.
How to Verify a Contractor
License
Verify the contractor's license with the Arkansas Contractors Licensing Board, and ask which license they hold for the work you need.
Insurance
Ask for proof of insurance, including general liability and workers' compensation, and check that it is current. Workers' comp protects you if a crew member is hurt in your home. All-Star Renovations is licensed, insured and workers' comp covered.
Local presence
Look for a real local address and phone number rather than a lead-referral service. All-Star Renovations is at 11 Arnett Ln, Conway, AR 72032, (501) 504-3398.
Written agreement
Get a written, itemized quote and agreement that lists the scope, schedule, payment terms and warranties. Be wary of anyone who asks for full payment in cash before work begins.
A Quick Checklist
Before you sign, make sure you have: a verified license, current proof of insurance, a written warranty that separates product and workmanship coverage, a clear answer about waterproofing, and a written scope and payment schedule. Most shower installs take 1-2 days; timing varies by project and is confirmed in your written quote.
