Countertops

  • Wipe spills promptly, especially acidic ones like citrus, wine and vinegar.
  • Use cutting boards and trivets; do not cut or set hot pans directly on the surface.
  • Clean with mild soap and water or a cleaner made for your countertop material.
  • If you have natural stone, ask whether and how often it should be sealed. See Countertop Materials.

Cabinets

  • Wipe doors with a soft, damp cloth and dry them.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive pads on finishes and veneers.
  • Do not drape wet dish towels over doors.
  • Tighten loose hinges and pulls when you notice them.
  • Check under the sink regularly for leaks.

Backsplash

  • Wipe behind the range after cooking.
  • Clean grout lines periodically with a soft brush.
